Falls Baseball 2020 Fall League Announcement - June 14, 2020

Fall League 2020 Announcement:
Innovative format that promises to be more fun than ever while setting a high standard for socially distant baseball

The 2020 fall league format will reduce the number of people in the ballpark and allow more spacing between people than most baseball leagues are currently doing. At the same time, the new format promotes more fun for the players and spectators than ever before while keeping focus on player development.

The new format will feature:
  • Maximum of 7 players per team (6 infield positions and 1 outfielder)
  • Field size shortened with outfield fences to be set at no more than 100 feet from home plate.
  • Schedule will include a team practice and 4 games to be held on Sundays
Fun Factor: Under this format, the fun factor increases due to:
  • With only 7 players on each roster, each player will see 40% more at-bats per game compared to our usual 10-11 player rosters.
  • With only 7 players per roster, players will play infield positions more than 85% of the time
  • With outfield fences at no more than 100 feet from home plate, home runs are now within reach for many of these young ballplayers. Falls Baseball will see to it that for any player's first home run over the fence this fall season, the ball will be retrieved as a souvenir for the player that hit it.
  • A targeted 7:3 player to coach ratio and more reps per game as described above, means optimal player development conditions and less waiting around, which means more time to have fun!
COVID-19 Safety Benefits:  Under this format, Falls Baseball will set a high standard for Socially Distant Baseball
  • Fewer players per roster means fewer people in the ballpark and more space to spread out
  • We will further limit people in the ballpark by having only one umpire behind the mound in the kid pitch division and no umpires in the younger divisions.
  • Protocols will be in place to promote no sharing of unsanitized equipment, including several sets of sanitized catcher's gear provided on each team bench each week
  • With more repetitions in less weeks compared to our typical 6 game format, families will experience more baseball with fewer trips to the ballpark
  • Other procedures in place to be communicated to families and coaches.

2020 Divisions:
(Ages as of August 15, 2020)

Coach Pitch (ages 5-6): In this division, coaches toss up to 5 pitches to each batter. If necessary, the batter hits off of a tee after five unsuccessful pitch attempts. Players age 6 may choose to play coach pitch to work on fundamentals at their current level, or play in the machine pitch division to gain experience before entering the machine pitch level next spring.

Machine Pitch (ages 6-8): Teams in this division hit off of a spring-loaded pitching machine. Players age 8 may choose to play machine pitch to work on fundamentals at their current level, or play in the kid pitch division to gain experience before entering the kid pitch level next spring.

Kid Pitch (ages 8-9): Players in this division will pitch to opposing batters.  Given the varying levels of experience at this level, when scheduling games, we will seek to balance age and experience when creating match ups.

Age exceptions: Any exceptions must be approved by the fall league commissioner.
